Solo or Co-op

Controls & Menu

Press Esc and select Mode Switch, the bamboo-hat icon near the top of the main menu.

Note: These instructions use the game’s default controls. To change your button settings, go to Settings → Keyboard & Mouse → Button Settings.

Choose Who Shares Your World

Use Solo Mode to advance your Main Story, Solo/Co-op for a private session with friends, or Online Mode to meet players in the shared world. Inviting a friend and entering Online Mode are separate choices.

Select Solo Mode or Online Mode on the left. For a private room, select Solo Mode, then Solo/Co-op Mode on the lower right.

Solo Mode

Your own world for the main story, exploration and solo activities.

Solo/Co-op Mode

A room in a player's world for invited friends. Explore together and enter activities that support co-op.

Online Mode

Meet players without inviting them individually. Use it to look for player healers outside Evercare Clinic; Injuries & Treatment (opens in a new tab) explains how to accept their help.

Solo and Online are on the left. Solo/Co-op Mode opens the room controls on the lower right.

Invite a Friend Into Your World

Choose who will host the session, then have that player select Invite Visitors and choose a friend from their platform’s friends list. To invite by code, the host selects Share and sends the code to the other player. This also works for friends on other platforms. Wait for everyone to appear in the room before starting.

Share provides a room code. This PC example also offers Invite friends from Steam.

Join Using Your Friend's Code

The joining player opens Solo/Co-op Mode and selects Enter Co-op Code or Enter Online Code along the bottom. Enter the host’s shared code, confirm and check that both players appear in the same room. Use T on PC or the displayed controller prompt.

T · Enter Online Code is along the bottom, just left of Matchmaking.

Choose an Activity That Supports Co-op

For exploration, join the same Solo/Co-op room. Difficulty follows the host’s world, so a newer player can host when playing with someone further ahead.

For quests, check the Solo or Multiplayer tab and current objective. A task marked solo-only requires you to leave the room. Return to Solo Mode to continue your Main Story.

For group boss activities, open Wandering Paths → Challenges. Check the player count, unlock requirements and matchmaking options for Hero’s Realm or Sword Trial.

Leave the Room and Continue Your Story

Open the co-op controls at the lower left and select the door-and-arrow exit icon. A host uses Disband to end the room; a visitor leaves to return to their own world.

From Online Mode, open Mode Switch and select Solo Mode instead. Once you are alone, open Quest → Main Story and track your current task.

The highlighted door-and-arrow icon opens the exit controls. The tracker shows a story task that needs solo play.

What’s Stopping You?

Mode Switch Is Not Available Yet

Continue the opening quests until character Lv. 10, when mode switching becomes available. Then open the main menu and look for the Mode Switch icon.

My Friend and I Are in Different Worlds

Choose one player to host. Both players open Solo Mode → Solo/Co-op Mode. The host uses Invite Visitors → Share; the joining player enters that room code using the control along the bottom.

The Story Stops After My Friend Joins

Check the tracker for a solo-only requirement. Leave or disband the room, select Solo Mode, then reopen your Main Story task in Quest.
